Am I living below my means?

Available onAndroidiOSWeb

Am I living below my means? compares your expenses with your income over recent months and tells you, in one word, whether you're spending less than you earn.

info

Living below your means is the most reliable way to avoid debt and build wealth over time.

To open it, go to Insights and tap Am I living below my means? under Financial overview.

The result

At the top you'll see one of these results:

  • Below means: you spend comfortably less than you earn (expenses are at most 90% of income).
  • Slightly below: you spend less than you earn, but your savings are below the 10% minimum.
  • Slightly above: you spend a little more than you earn (up to 5% more).
  • Above means: your expenses clearly exceed your income.
  • Pending data: there isn't enough income and spending yet to work it out.

Below the result, a short message explains what it means, with practical tips such as Review and trim, Prioritize needs or Set incremental goals when there's room to improve.

How it works

The result looks at all your transactions from the past six months and works out your expense-to-income ratio for each month. Instead of treating every month equally, it gives more weight to recent months, because your latest habits say more about your situation today than older ones.

For example, if you overspent three months ago but have been spending less since, a simple average could still say you live beyond your means. The weighted result recognises your more careful recent months and gives a fairer picture.

Trend

The Trend row shows a dot for each of the last six months, coloured by that month's result, so you can see whether you've been consistent or had ups and downs. Tap a month to see its Total income, Total expenses and Balance.
