Dashboard Overview and Key Features

Our Dashboard is designed to give you a comprehensive view of your financial health at a glance. Here's a breakdown of the main features and how you can use them to manage your budget effectively.

1. Dashboard States

Your dashboard will reflect various states, depending on the current health of your budget:

  • Ready to Allocate: When you have funds that need to be assigned to specific categories, the dashboard will indicate how much is available for allocation. This state helps you plan how to distribute your income across different expenses.

  • Overspent: If you exceed your category limits, the dashboard shows a warning (e.g., overspending by $200). This is a cue to either adjust your spending using ready to allocate money or reallocate funds to cover the overspent from other categories.

  • Over Allocation: This occurs when your allocated categories exceed the available balance in your account. The dashboard will alert you to review and adjust your allocations.

  • Pending Reconciliation: If you've imported transactions from notifications or bank files that haven't been reconciled yet, they will appear here.

  • Happy State: When everything is on track, and you’ve met all your targets, your dashboard will be free from alerts, showing you’re in a healthy financial state.

Always click on the right-pointing arrow in the Budget Health Check for a more in-depth experience and guidance to resolve any issues.

2. Pinning and Collapsing Sections

To customize your view, you can pin the budget health check to the top of your dashboard. This allows you to always see the most crucial information while scrolling across the categories. You can also collapse sections to simplify the display and minimize clutter, ensuring that only the most relevant information is visible.

3. Budget Summary with Scroll Options

The Budget Summary offers a snapshot of your financial situation. It provides insights into your spending habits. You can scroll to the right to explore more advanced options, such as historical comparisons or breakdowns of specific categories.

4. Category Group Headers

Check out the Insights section for more detailed, at-a-glance information about your spending and allocation.

Each group of categories (e.g., Needs, Wants, Savings) has a header that displays the percentage of the total budget allocated to that group, along with the total available amount in all categories combined. This helps you balance your spending across different financial priorities.

5. Category Icons

If a goal has a specific due date, the icon will display that day of the month. For goals that roll over weekly, the icon will adjust to reflect the new week. Any set reminders will also be shown alongside. A grey icon indicates that the situation has been resolved.

Icons next to each category provide a quick visual reference to help you manage your budget:

  • Target Met: A checkmark or similar icon indicates you have successfully met the set target for that category.

  • Pending: If a target is not yet fully met or if future expenses are expected, the icon will prompt action.

  • Upcoming Payments: Categories with upcoming payments are marked, ensuring you're prepared for future obligations.

6. Category Colors

You can switch to a different color scheme or create your own custom color scheme in the Settings.

Color coding plays a key role in providing quick insights:

  • Green: This signifies that the category is in good standing, either meeting or exceeding the target, with no issues detected.

  • Yellow/Orange: A warning that upcoming payments are due or that the target hasn’t been met yet, urging you to take action.

  • Red: Indicates negative balances or overspending. Immediate attention is needed to either reduce spending or reallocate funds.

Practical Tips for Using the Dashboard:

  • Track Your Progress: Use the health checks and alerts to guide your spending decisions. If the dashboard shows you're in the "overspent" or "over allocation" state, make adjustments promptly.

  • Allocate Money Efficiently: If your dashboard is in the “Ready to Allocate” state, ensure you allocate available funds to priority categories, like Needs or Debt Repayments, before moving on to discretionary spending.

  • Take Advantage of Visual Cues: The icons and colors are designed to help you quickly assess your budget health without having to dig through detailed reports. Keep an eye on the colors, especially red and yellow, to avoid budget problems.

  • Pin Important Sections: For easier navigation, pin sections like the Budget Health Check to always stay on top of your financial situation when there is a pending alert to be resolved.

Customizing Your Dashboard Appearance

You have the flexibility to personalize the appearance of your Beyond Budget dashboard to suit your preferences. Here’s how:

  • Change Colors, Icon Styles, and Progress Bar:

    • Navigate to Settings to customize the colors used on your dashboard (e.g., for warnings, upcoming payments, and available balances).

    • You can also modify the icon styles for categories, allowing for a more visually appealing or simplified display.

    • Adjust the progress bar disposition, changing how your progress is displayed for category allocations and spending.

  • Show Total Spending Under Categories:

    • By default, the dashboard shows allocated amounts for each category. However, you can choose to display total spending instead. This gives a clearer picture of how much you’ve actually spent in each category, making it easier to track your expenses at a glance.
