Tag spending overview

Tags cut across your categories: a "Holiday" or "Kids" tag can sit on groceries, transport and eating out at the same time. The Tag spending overview adds up your tagged transactions so you can see what each tag cost you this month, and Spending insights by category shows where a tag's money went.

Open the Tag spending overview​

  1. Open Insights.
  2. Under Tools and analysis, tap Tag spending overview.

What you'll see​

The overview covers the month you have selected in your budget.

  • A banner at the top sums it up, for example "Showing 12 tagged transactions with a total of $340.00 in spending".
  • Under Tags, every tag with its Amount tagged, largest first, highlighted by its share of the month's tagged spending. Tap a tag to open its Tag details.
  • View transactions shows the Tagged transactions below the list; tap Hide transactions to hide them again. The app remembers your choice.

If you haven't tagged anything in the month, you'll see "You haven't tagged any transactions this month".

Choose which transactions count​

By default only expenses count. To include other kinds, tap the Filter icon in the top bar and pick the Transaction types you want. When the filter includes more than expenses, the column shows each tag's Balance instead (money in minus money out), highlighted by number of transactions.

Tag details​

Open a tag from the overview, or from Tags in the side menu, to see:

  • Transactions summary: the amount for This month and for All time, with the number of transactions.
  • Spending insights by category: see below.
  • Show absolute values: show amounts as positive numbers instead of a signed balance (not available on some older tags).
  • Historical tagging: a month-by-month chart of the tag.
  • Recent transactions with the tag.

Spending insights by category​

Tap Spending insights by category in a tag's details to see which categories its spending went to.

  1. Pick a period at the top: 7d, 14d, 30d, This month or Last month.
  2. Total spending in this period shows everything spent with the tag.
  3. Under Categories, each category is listed with its amount and number of transactions, largest first.
  4. Tap the eye icon on a category to leave it out. Tracked in insights then shows the total without the categories you've hidden. This is handy when, say, a "Holiday" tag also covers the flights you'd budgeted separately.
  5. Turn on Show related transactions to list the transactions below.

The app remembers the period and hidden categories for each tag.

Free and Pro​

The Tag spending overview and Tag details are free. Spending insights by category is part of Pro (tag insights): on the Free plan it shows a lock, and tapping it shows what Pro includes. The Free plan also allows a limited number of tags (5).
