Move from YNAB

Available onAndroidiOSWeb

Bring every account, category, transaction and month you planned in YNAB into a new Beyond Budget budget, in one go. You export your budget from YNAB, add the file in the app, and we build a new zero-based budget from it. Your other budgets aren't touched.

Pro

Anyone can add a YNAB export and review what comes across. Creating the budget needs Pro.

Get your budget out of YNAB

It takes a minute, on a computer or in your phone's browser.

  1. Open YNAB on the web (app.ynab.com) and sign in.
  2. Open the budget you want to move.
  3. Click the budget's name at the top left, then Export plan.
  4. You get a zip file. Save it where the device you use Beyond Budget on can reach it.
warning

Exports from YNAB 4, the old desktop app, don't work. Export your budget from YNAB on the web instead.

Move it into Beyond Budget

  1. Go to More › Budgets and tap the Move from YNAB icon at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Add the YNAB export and pick the zip YNAB gave you, or the Register and Plan files in it.
    • The Register file holds your transactions. The Plan file holds what you assigned each month. Without the Plan file, your transactions still come across, but your monthly allocations don't: add it with Add the Plan file, or tap Continue without the Plan.
  3. Check What comes across: your accounts, categories, transactions, transfers, split transactions and months of planning. Anything that comes across a little differently is listed here too.
  4. Enter the New budget name and check the currency. We work it out from your amounts; if we can't, Choose a currency. Amounts are never converted.
  5. Tap Create the budget. It takes a few minutes. You can close the app: we'll let you know when it's ready.
  6. When it's ready, we show how many account balances and categories match YNAB. Tap Open the budget to start using it.

We use your files only to build the new budget, then delete them. You can move one budget at a time, and the new budget counts toward the number of budgets your plan allows.

After the move

Most things come across exactly, and a few work a little differently here:
