No spending challenge
A No spending challenge helps you cut back for a set period: you decide which categories you can still spend from, and the app keeps you on track until the end. Finish it and you earn a badge.
Start a challenge
- Open the side menu and tap No spending challenge.
- Tap New challenge.
- Set up the Challenge details:
- Duration: 7 days, 14 days or 28 days.
- Tier: how strict the challenge is.
- Starter: up to 2 slip-ups allowed during the challenge.
- Challenger: 1 slip-up permitted.
- Master: no slip-up allowed.
- Nickname (optional): give your challenge a name.
- Choose categories for: pick Allow spending to list the essential categories you can still spend from, or Block spending to list the non-essential categories you want to stay away from. Then select the categories under Available categories (or Select all).
- Confirm to start the challenge.
With Allow spending, you can select up to half of your categories, to keep the challenge meaningful. Block spending has no limit, which is handy if you want to curb a single bad habit.
You can only have one active challenge at a time. Starting a new one replaces the current challenge and erases its progress.
Tap Rules on the challenge details screen to read how slip-ups, badges and cancelling work.
What causes a slip-up?
During the challenge, these count as a slip-up:
- overspending, or spending outside the allowed categories;
- reallocating money from non-essential categories to spend on allowed categories;
- skipping the daily check-ins.
The app warns you about a potential slip-up before it happens, so you can stay on track.
Follow your progress
While a challenge is running, a No spending challenge card appears on your Budget screen with the days left and your slip-ups. Tap it, or open No spending challenge from the side menu, to see your Active challenge, the Slip-ups left and the Slip-ups history. Your past challenges are listed under Recent challenges.
To make the categories you shouldn't touch less prominent, turn on Dim Out Locked Categories on the No spending challenge screen. It reduces the visibility of locked categories while a challenge is in progress.
Earn a badge
The badge you earn depends on the challenge duration and how many slip-ups you have at the end:
- 7-Day Saver: complete the 7-day no spending challenge.
- 14-Day Champion: complete the 14-day no spending challenge.
- 28-Day Treasure Hunter: complete the 28-day no spending challenge.
You can Cancel challenge at any time, but a cancelled challenge doesn't count toward a badge. See all your badges in Badges.
