SmartBudget AI answers questions about your own finances. Pick a question such as "Where have I been overspending in the last 3 months?" and the AI looks at your budget's spending, income and trends to give you personalised insights and recommendations.

Open SmartBudget AI​

  1. Open Insights.
  2. Under Tools and analysis, tap SmartBudget AI.

The first time, the app shows what to keep in mind before you start:

  • AI is experimental & for guidance only: this tool is still evolving, so double-check important details.
  • You're in control: accuracy can't be guaranteed, and Beyond Budget isn't responsible for your financial decisions.
  • AI isn't always right: insights may be incomplete or incorrect.
  • Privacy & data use: your data is processed by a third-party AI provider in line with the privacy policy.

Ask a question​

The questions are grouped by topic: Overview, Spending & Budgeting, Income & Savings, Discretionary Spending, Lifestyle & Expenses, Debt Management, Cash Flow, Financial Goals & Planning, Investment & Wealth and Essential Spending. A few examples:

  • "How has my financial situation changed recently?"
  • "If I keep spending at this rate, how much will I have left next month?"
  • "Where can I cut back on non-essential purchases?"
  • "Can I afford a vacation in the next 3 months based on my savings?"

The questions you pick most often appear at the top under Your go-to insights.

Tap a question. While the AI works you'll see messages like "Crunching the numbers…", then the answer:

  • You asked: your question. Tap Change question to go back and pick another.
  • AI recommendations for you: the insights, most reliable first. Each has a confidence level (Low, Medium or High); tap it to see what it means.
  • Overall AI confidence level: how much the answer as a whole is backed by your data. With little data, some recommendations may need manual review.

Tap the Share icon in the top bar to send the answer as text. Insights refresh every 24 hours.

Better data, better answers​

The AI needs your transaction history to spot patterns. The AI Learning Status card on the question list shows your Data availability in days, with milestones at 30, 60 and 90 days:

  • With no data yet, it asks you to log transactions first.
  • Up to 30 days, the AI is still learning, so accuracy is limited.
  • From 30 to 90 days it detects early trends and then spending patterns.
  • After 90 days it has a solid history, so trends and forecasts are more accurate.

Logging all your transactions regularly is the best way to get useful answers.

Free and Pro​

SmartBudget AI is a Pro feature with a free allowance: on the Free plan each budget gets 10 free insights. The question list shows how many you have left; when they run out, picking a question shows what Pro includes. Pro has unlimited insights.

Privacy and your data​

To answer, SmartBudget AI analyses your budget data on Beyond Budget's servers. As the app says, your data is processed by a third-party AI provider in line with the privacy policy. Beyond Budget never sells your data or uses it for advertising.
