BudgetChat AI

Available onAndroidiOSWeb

BudgetChat AI is a chat assistant inside your budget. Type what happened in your own words, like "2.99 snacks Visa", and it creates the transaction for you. It can also set reminders, undo its last action and answer budgeting questions.

Open BudgetChat AI

  • Open the side menu and tap BudgetChat AI (under Miscellaneous).
  • Or, when you add a transaction, tap the BudgetChat AI icon (a chat bot) at the top of the new transaction screen, or next to New expense if you use the transaction type picker.
  • From an account's screen, the BudgetChat AI icon appears in the top bar as you scroll. The chat then uses that account for new transactions unless you name another one.

What you can ask

The empty chat greets you with "What can I help with?" and a list of suggestions built from your own accounts. Tap one to try it, or type your own message (2 to 120 characters) and send it.

Log transactions

  • Expenses: "Log a 4.50 coffee expense under Checking", "35 groceries Visa last Friday".
  • Income: "Add 2000 as income to Checking".
  • Transfers: "Transfer 200 from Checking to Savings".

BudgetChat AI matches the account and category names you mention to the ones in your budget, so use names it can recognise. You can log several transactions in one message. Each created transaction appears in the chat: tap it to open it.

Set reminders

"Remind me to pay power bill in two days at 9 AM". Tap the reminder in the chat to open it. See Reminders.

Undo

"Undo my previous action" deletes the transactions or reminders from the last thing BudgetChat AI did, and marks that message as undone.

Ask for advice

"Give me tips to reduce spending", "How can I save more money?", "What are good budgeting habits?". Answers may include links to the matching help pages.

Clear the chat

Tap the Clear icon in the top bar to start a new conversation. The chat keeps your conversation while you use the app, so it can understand follow-up messages.

AI can make mistakes

The chat reminds you: "AI can make mistakes. Check important info." Check the amount, account, category and date of anything it creates; tap a created transaction to fix it, or ask it to undo. BudgetChat AI is labelled Experimental, and the app notes the feature may be turned off at any time for further optimisation.

Ask Beyond: help with the app

Ask Beyond is the same chat in help mode: it answers questions about how the app works, based on this help centre.

  1. Go to More › Support.
  2. Tap Ask Beyond (Get instant answers about app features).
  3. Ask anything about the app, e.g. "How do I set up recurring transactions?" or "What is carry over?".

Answers are based on the help documentation and often link to the relevant page. Ask Beyond is meant for questions about the app; to log transactions, use BudgetChat AI. Ask Beyond isn't locked behind Pro.

Free and Pro

BudgetChat AI is a Pro feature with a free allowance: on the Free plan each budget gets 30 BudgetChat AI uses. When you have fewer than half left, the chat shows how many remain; once they're used up, the message box is disabled and Go pro unlocks unlimited use.

Privacy and your data

To understand your message, BudgetChat AI sends it to Beyond Budget's servers for AI processing, together with the context it needs: your account and category names, your language and, when you opened the chat from an account, that account and date. As the app's AI disclaimer puts it, your data is processed by a third-party AI provider in line with the privacy policy. Beyond Budget never sells your data or uses it for advertising.
